National reading day to be marked in Moldova

Chisinau, 31 March /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today voted the declaring of the 14 February as national reading day.

Under the draft, the authorities, as well as the institutions with powers in the culture sector will provide logistic and financial support to libraries, museums, education institutions, non-governmental organizations, publishing houses for the organization of events for promoting the reading.

At the same time, the Audiovisual Council, providers and distributors of media services will produce, broadcast and rebroadcast programmes on the promotion and encouraging of reading.

The declaring of the national reading day is proposed in the context of marking the World Read Aloud Day, held annually on the first days of February, as well as of the day of 14 February, when a great departed poet, Grigore Vieru, was born.
