Moldovan speaker meets European delegation

Chisinau, April 1 / MOLDPRES /- Speaker Igor Grosu together with head of the Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration Doina Gherman and head of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Public Order Lilian Carp met with High Level Delegation of the European Parliament on a visit to Chisinau, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

Igor Grosu thanked the MEPs for being with our country in these difficult times: “We are living in very complicated times related to security in the area. The invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine shocked us all. We are watching the ceasefire carefully and doing our best in these circumstances - helping the people of Ukraine fleeing the war. We have never been through this experience before, so we need prompt support in managing this crisis. "

The speaker said that the main concerns are accommodation, food and medical services, integration or provision of the green corridor for refugees, and direct financial support to our state for a systemic approach and management of the humanitarian situation.

At the same time, Grosu underlined that the macro-financial support of 150 million euros that they adopted in the European Parliament on Thursday is of great importance in the context of the refugee crisis, but also for the energy and socio-economic stability in our country.

According to the speaker, an example of rapid and effective mobilization is the mission of the European Agency for Border Police and Coast Guard (FRONTEX) in the Republic of Moldova. Igor Grosu thanked the European Union for this important help provided to the Moldovan border guards in the control of the state border crossing.

There was also talk of cooperation between the European Parliament and the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, which shows a dynamism, especially after the recent signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation. A first action will be the launch of the Jean Monnet dialogue (April 11-12, 2022) which will help us in the process of consolidating the dialogue within the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.

"We are going through difficult times, but our parliamentary agenda remains unchanged, we will complete all the reforms. We want to build a functional state, with strong institutions, which can offer security and quality services to the citizens ", Igor Grosu said.

He also wanted to emphasize that on March 4, the Republic of Moldova submitted the application for accession to the European Union, and that our country continues to rely on the support of the Members of the European Parliament.

The members of the delegation appreciated the efforts of the Republic of Moldova in managing the refugee crisis.

The determination of the European institutions to provide the assistance that the Republic of Moldova needs, including macro-financial, in resolving the refugee crisis, in increasing independence and energy security, in strengthening democracy and European values ​​was expressed.

From March 31 to April 2, a high-level delegation of the European Parliament, led by the Vice President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Urmas Paet, and the Chair of the Subcommittee on Security and Defense, Nathalie Loiseau, pay a visit to our country. The delegation also includes MEPs Siegfried Mureșan, Evin Incir, Dragoș Tudorache, Susanna Ceccardi and Anna Fotyga.
