Chisinau, 7 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence of Ireland Simon Coveney, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
The officials referred to the security situation triggered by the war in Ukraine. In the context of the unprecedented humanitarian crisis and the large number of refugees hosted by Moldova, Minister Nicu Popescu thanked his Irish counterpart for the Dublin authorities’ decision to relocate 500 refugees from Moldova in Ireland and the support provided through international and non-governmental organizations.
„I welcomed the holding of the Moldova Support Platform in Berlin on 5 April 2022, which proved a strong solidarity of the international community, of the European Union, G7 member states, financial institutions and international organizations. I appreciated also the firm support by Ireland of our irreversible European integration,’’ the Moldovan diplomacy head said.
The sides discussed possibility of carrying out priority actions for the benefit of the Moldovan Diaspora from Ireland and the negotiation of agreements in priority sectors: on the social security dimension, equalizing the education documents and cutting the roaming tariffs. At the same time, the interlocutors highlighted the need to boost the discussions on the agreement concerning the conversion of driver’s licences.
„These actions for the Diaspora will facilitate a better integration in the Irish society of those of over 25,000 fellow countrymen from Moldova who live in Ireland,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.
