Moldovan premier meets Polish counterpart

Chisinau, 8 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and her counterpart of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki in Warsaw today discussed the European integration of Moldova, as well as the challenges faced by Moldova and Poland, in the current regional context, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The Moldovan PM stressed that, just as Poland, Moldova was at the border with the war and starting from the latter’s unleashing, the country had been receiving refugees and the authorities were managing the unprecedented humanitarian crisis and looked for solutions for the country’s economic recovery.  

„Moldova remains with the people of Ukraine and always had its border opened for the refugees from the neighbour country. In this effort, noticed and backed by the international community, people from my country had the most important role, as on their own initiative, they gave refugees accommodation, transport, donations and other support. At the same time, our economy is toughly hit by the war – the ways of export and import have been reoriented and the government and entrepreneurs daily solve emergency situations. The costs of this war are extremely high and are felt by citizens,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.   

In context, the prime minister appreciated Poland’s intention to provide Moldova with a financial support, noting that this money would help the cabinet to continue the programmes of support for the citizens and business. At the meeting, the sides signed the executive programme in the field of culture, education and science for 2022-2025, as well as the agreement on loan between the governments of Poland and Moldova worth 20 million euros. The loan, with an interest of 0.01 per cent, is provided for a repayment period of 20 years and will be used to finance budgetary expenses.    

The Moldovan PM underlined that Poland remained a reliable partner also in the process of Moldova’s integration in EU and the country relied on the Polish side’s assistance in the initiative on abolishing the quotas for Moldovan exporters. ‘’None modern crisis can be settled unilaterally. The European model of cooperation and development is a guarantor of peace and prosperity and Moldova looks at this model with admiration and respect and hopes that one day it will be able to bring value added as full-fledged member of the European Union. We are happy with the support of Poland, a country which knows how to help us and a country which is a model of European integration,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.    

For his part, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized that Poland would further support Moldova in the effort of managing the crises, in the implementation of the Association Agreement, as well as in other concrete sectors dealing with the European integration process.   

The officials referred to the negotiations held by Moldova, in order to get the removal of the quotas for export and liberalization of the transport authorizations.
