Chisinau, April 11 / MOLDPRES /- The restoration works of the Church „Adormirea Maicii Domnului” in Causeni are expected to be completed this autumn. This was discussed at a meeting between Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan and new US Ambassador to Moldova Kent Logsdon.
The project is part of the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Conservation (AFCP), is conducted through the US Embassy in Moldova and is implemented by the Center for Archaeological Research of the Republic of Moldova.
Kent Logsdon confirmed the interest in supporting cultural projects initiated by the US Embassy to strengthen the US-Moldova bilateral relationship that the two countries have built over the past 30 years.
Sergiu Prodan thanked the American people, who through the US Embassy in our country invest in works to safeguard and use cultural heritage, as well as to support the creative industries.
"We are grateful for this tremendous support for our culture. This is a unique architectural monument in this part of Europe, a symbol of the perpetuation of the Orthodox faith and spirituality of our nation, "said the Minister of Culture.
The Church in Causeni is very different from other holy places in the Republic of Moldova. It is an architectural monument built in the 17th - 18th centuries. It was founded by the ruler of Moldova Grigore Callimachi and Metropolitan Daniil of Proilavia. The interior painting dates from 1763. It is a unique monument in the eastern Carpathian area due to its location below ground level (semi-buried church), due to the fact that Causeni was then governed by Ottoman law, which required churches not to rise above the base of the roof of Muslim places of worship in the same land and not exceed certain dimensions.
After the completion of the restoration works, the Church will be included in the domestic and international tourist circuit.
