More than 96,000 refugees from Ukraine continue to be in Moldova

Chisinau, 11 April /MOLDPRES/ - The government continues to undertake all needed actions for the reception, assistance and inclusion of the refugees from Ukraine in the social and economic life of Moldova, giving them access to education and social services. The head of the Single Crisis Management Centre (CUGC), Adrian Efros, today made statements to this effect at a visit to a placement centre for refugees placed at the former movie theatre Patria Rascani from Chisinau. As many as 375,343 citizens of Ukraine have entered Moldova since the beginning of the war in Ukraine and 96,882 are still in Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.           

In this respect, the programme on supporting the refugees, launched by the United Nations Refugee Agency, has been already implemented and each Ukrainian refugee will receive a monthly allocation of 2,200 lei. Also, with the support of the World Food Programme, the families from Moldova who host refugees will receive a one-off support worth 3,500 lei each.    

The CUGC head also said that, starting from late last March, the World Food Programme (WFP) had taken over the management of the stocking and distribution to refugees of food products and other goods from the humanitarian assistance. The assets are daily delivered to the local public authorities (APL) and placement centres, based on their requests. Also, WFP provides the nourishment of the refugees from the placement centres, and has distributed more than 85,680 warm dinners so far.        

​​„Each refugee from Ukraine is eligible for humanitarian assistance on behalf of the foreign partners involved in this process. On this occasion, I make a request to mayors for a coherent and as accurate as possible planning of the needs and their accessing through the platform www.uahelp.md,’’ Adrian Efros stressed.    

The today’s visit to the Patria Rascani movie theatre was the second one made by the CUGC head to this centre and is part of a string of visits to placement centres from Moldova.   

Adrian Efros made a tour of the centre and learned directly from the head of the Chisinau city hall’s medical and social assistance general department, Boris Galca, about the centre’s work and its needs. They welcomed the dialogue between the central and local public administrations and confirmed the support for the refugees from Ukraine, taking into account that a good deal of them are in Chisinau.
