Jean Monnet Dialogue for Peace and Democracy to be implemented in Moldova's parliament to strengthen dialogue between parties

Chisinau, 11 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Jean Monnet Dialogue for Peace and Democracy instrument will be implemented in Moldova’s parliament. The initiation of this process was discussed at a meeting of Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Rapporteur of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee for the implementation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement Dragos Tudorache. Attending the event were the deputy parliament speakers and lawmakers from all parliamentary factions, the parliament’s communication and public relations has reported.
The Jean Monnet Dialogue for Peace and Democracy is an instrument developed by the European Parliament in the mediation sector. Its implementation has the goal to strengthen the political leaders’ capacity to develop a truthful dialogue between the parties and create the consensus necessary for the generation of confidence and a democratic parliamentary culture.
In the context, the participants in the event discussed the stages of implementing this instrument of mediation and identification of certain subjects, which are to be discussed and negotiated through the Jean Monnet Dialogue for Peace and Democracy.
”I believe that we should start from an achievable goal, from a subject which would facilitate the dialogue. This must be everybody’s initiative. We can succeed only in conditions of a wide consensus,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.
The implementation of the Jean Monnet Dialogue for Peace and Democracy is part of the Roadmap of activities to support democracy, agreed upon within the Memorandum of Understanding between the European Parliament and Moldova’s parliament. It was signed by the then European Parliament President David Maria Sassoli and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu in Brussels on 29 November 2021.
On 11-13 April, Rapporteur of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee for the implementation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement, member in charge of Moldova of the Democracy Support and Election Coordination Group Dragos Tudorache is on a visit to Chisinau. During the visit, the MEP had meeting with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, Deputy Speakers Mihail Popsoi and Vlad Batrincea, representatives of all parliamentary factions, heads of the standing commissions. He also had a meeting with the Parliament’s Secretary General Tamara Gheorghita and the employees of the parliament’s Secretariat.
