12:06 | 14.04.2022 Category: Social

Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/- Air quality law was voted at today's parliament meeting in second reading.

The document's adoption is part of the commitments assumed by our country within the Association Agreement of the Republic of Moldova - European Union, in the chapter "Environment".

The project aims to improve the monitoring and evaluation of air quality and ensure the provision of information on atmospheric air quality to the public, in accordance with the provisions of European Directives.

The law provides for the creation of the National System for Integrated Monitoring and Management of Air Quality (SNMGICA) on the entire territory of the Republic of Moldova. According to the authors, this will allow accurate data on the level of air pollution and ensure the prevention of the development of public or private projects, which may have a potential impact on air quality in certain areas where pollutant emission limits are exceeded.

The implementation of SNMGICA will contribute to the observance of one of the fundamental principles in the field of environmental protection "the polluter pays". Based on the data obtained from SNMGICA, it will be possible to identify the economic agents, as a result of whose activity the air pollution takes place.
