Working group to work out draft amendment to Gagauz Regulation

Chisinau, April 14 / MOLDPRES /- First meeting of the working group for the elaboration of the draft law on amendment of Gagauz Regulation took place today in Comrat. The group included members of the Executive Committee, lawyers, public administration experts, etc.
The participants in the meeting mentioned "the urgent need to eliminate legal gaps, outdated rules and conflicts in the Basic Law of Gagauzia in order to ensure effective cooperation of all branches of government of autonomy."
The governor of the region, Irina Vlah, asked the members of the working group to carry out an in-depth analysis of the existing provisions of the legislation and to develop solutions to improve the provisions of the Regulation. It was also decided to involve representatives of academia and civil society in the work of the Commission.
The deadlines for preparing the draft law on amending the Code have also been set - until June 1, 2022.
The Gagauz-Yeri Autonomous Region was established in the Republic of Moldova in the early 1990s to protect the rights of the Gagauz minority. In 1994, the Chisinau Parliament approved the Law on the Special Legal Status of Gagauzia, which established an administrative structure, including a legislature, an executive branch headed by a governor (Bashkan), and region-specific autonomous powers.
