Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - We do not have an answer on behalf of Gazprom on the gas supplies starting from 1 May as yet; nevertheless, the government has alternative solutions. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita made statements to this effect at a news conference held following the cabinet meeting today.
„We do not have an answer on behalf of the Gazprom concern as to the delivery of natural gas starting from 1 May as yet. I have earlier explained Chisinau’s position and we expect the answer,’’ the prime minister said.
At the same time, Natalia Gavrilita noted that the government had alternative solutions to the situation when the gas supplies are interrupted and the citizens will not remain without gas.
Last week, Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu gave assurances that Moldova’s cabinet had solutions to maintain the country’s energy security, as well as viable options, which it is going to undertake, in order to continuously supply the citizens with electric energy and natural gas.
”The Russian concern Gazprom, for the time being, has not given an answer to the Moldovan authorities. Therefore, beginning with 1 May, the deliveries of natural gas are uncertain. In the context, seven international companies are willing to supply natural to Moldova, including from Romania, Poland and the Netherlands,’’ the official said.
„We have solutions to the ceasing of the gas supplies by the Russian side, especially as we have an experience of overcoming the energy crisis, which we faced last autumn. To make sure in this respect, the government will undertake more measures in advance, as it is known that the sleigh must be made in summer,’’ Deputy PM Andrei Spinu said.
Moldova might have difficulties in the supply with gas starting from 1 May, when Gazprom could decide the ceasing of the deliveries of natural gas, because of the fact that an audit on the historical debts of Moldovagaz will not be able to be made till this date.
In late October 2021, Moldovagaz and Gazprom signed the extension of the contract on supply of gas to Moldova for five years.
