Chisinau, April 28 / MOLDPRES /- Several activities took place yesterday in Gagauzia on the occasion of the celebration of the Gagauz language and writing.
The program included a flashmob in Vulcanesti, whose participants sang the anthem of autonomy, and a Karaoke edition in Gagauz was presented at Comrat.
Also, in Comrat, a cultural-orthodox festival was held dedicated to Mihail Ceakir, a man of culture, a Gagauz illuminist.
"A language lives exactly as long as it is spoken by people. Preserving and developing the Gagauz language is a common mission of all the inhabitants of autonomy. This requires examples of a good attitude towards the mother tongue. It is very important how we speak Gagauz, but more importantly - what we speak. Our behavior could stimulate the desire to learn Gagauz, thus participating in the promotion and preservation of our language ", said Irina Vlah, the governor of Gagauzia in an address to the participants of the Comrat festival.
The Gagauz language is a name given to the Turkish language spoken mainly in the Republic of Moldova, mainly in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, etc.
It was written in the Greek alphabet, then in the Romanian alphabet until 1957, after which a modified version of the Cyrillic alphabet for the Turkish languages was adopted. Today the Gagauz language is written in the Turkish alphabet.
