Campaign to detect breast cancer launched in Chisinau

Chisinau, April 28 / MOLDPRES /- Chisinau city hall has launched the Breast Cancer Screening Program.
The campaign aims to detect in the early stages breast cancer through screening services, strengthen prophylactic medical examinations and reduce the prevalence of this disease among women in the capital.
The program will be implemented in 2022-2025 and aims to reduce by 10% the incidence of advanced cases of breast cancer and the mortality caused; 25% increase in the rate of early detection of breast cancer (in stages I and II); ensuring access for at least 85% of women to mammography services.
In order to carry out this campaign, the city hall has allocated over 15 million lei for the current year from the municipal budget. Thus, within the five Territorial Medical Associations in Chisinau, mammography clinics will be created in which screening and early detection of breast cancer will be performed, including the provision of a high-performance mammogram.
According to statistics, there are over 10,000 breast cancer patients in the Republic of Moldova, and about a thousand new cases are registered every year. The number of breast cancer patients is lower in Chisinau, where about 350 cases are registered.
