EU reiterates strong support for sovereignty, territorial integrity of Moldova

Chisinau, April 29 / MOLDPRES /- EU High Representative Josep Borrell today issued a statement on the recent security incidents in the Transnistrian region, saying “the EU is in solidarity with the Republic of Moldova and reiterates its strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders and with a special status for the Transnistrian region”.

The statement also reads “the incidents in the Transnistrian region, which took place in recent days are detrimental to the security and stability of the Republic of Moldova. The European Union calls on the actors responsible to avoid destabilizing the situation. We strongly welcome the reactions of the Moldovan authorities, which are helping to keep the country calm."

"To support Moldova in addressing the impact of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the EU is providing comprehensive assistance to meet the immediate challenges of the refugee flow and stepped up its medium-term support to strengthen Moldova's overall resilience," the document reads.
