Moldovan Food Safety Agency withdraws non-conforming consignment of rice from market

Chisinau, 29 April /MOLDPRES/ - The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) has informed consumers that, within the programme on monitoring and supervising the quality of imported food products of non-animal origin, decision-makers found out a consignment of rice which exceeded the admissible level of inorganic arsenic (1.6 mg/kg), while the admissible level is 0.2 mg/kg.
„To supply consumers with safe food products for consumption, decision-makers instructed to urgently withdraw the aforementioned consignment from trade units,’’ ANSA said.
Under the legislation, operators from the food sector holders of non-conforming products are obliged to withdraw them from market and cooperate with the National Food Safety Agency concerning the actions undertaken, in order to avoid or reduce the risks to the human health, posed by a non-conforming food product.
„The operators from the food field holding non-conforming food products, who have not taken measures of withdrawing these products from market, are liable to legal responsibility,’’ ANSA noted.
ANSA warns that the people who bought these products are asked not to consume them and have right to return them to the shop where they were purchased.
