USA reiterates support for strengthening democracy in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 April /MOLDPRES/ - The consolidation of the democracy in Moldova, fight against corruption, strengthening of the national economy and energy security have been the principal subjects on the agenda of the discussions between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and Senator of the United States Steven D. Daines, on an official visit to Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The officials exchanged opinions on the humanitarian and economic crisis emerged in the region following the unleashing of the war in Ukraine, as well as the measures undertaken by the cabinet, in order to attenuate its effects on the citizens’ well-being. In the context, Natalia Gavrilita appreciated the backing of the foreign partners, who provide Moldova with an important financial support.
“Even if we go through a turbulent period, marked by crisis, we continue working and implementing the reforms promised. We are firmly confident that a fair and independent justice system stays at the basis of the democracy. This fact would have been impossible without the support of our partners from the EU and USA,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.
The PM thanked the American official for the support provided to Moldova during years through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and other governmental agencies, including in the process of managing the refugees’ crisis.
For his part, Steven D. Daines reiterated the support of the United States in the advancement of the reforms and strengthening of the democratic processes underway.
“Even if Moldova is seriously hit by the crisis from the region, the reforms continue here. I assure you that you have our every support on this way,’’ the American senator stressed.
The officials referred also to the measures the Moldovan government is undertaking and the solutions identified to contribute to the consolidation of the national energy system.
