Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/- European Union will provide increased support to the Republic of Moldova, including equipment for the National Army. The announcement was made today by European Council President Charles Michel at a joint conference with Head of State Maia Sandu.
The Moldovan president thanked the European partners for the humanitarian aid worth over 13 million euros granted so far and reiterated the desire of the Republic of Moldova to integrate into the EU as soon as possible.
"We thank you for your help to our country and count on the EU's support to open up the market for fruits in the Republic of Moldova. We also need permits for the transport of goods in the EU. Our plans and intentions have not changed. We want to build a strong state, we want to have quality services, to continue the justice reform and to give our young people the chance to work and live at home. But in order to seize every opportunity, we need peace. We chose European integration as a development model and on March 3 the Republic of Moldova signed the application for EU membership. On April 22, we have already sent the first part of the questionnaire, and in the following days we will send the second part. The process of European integration is a complex one, but we want to give our citizens the future they deserve as soon as possible. All our plans can only be accomplished in peace. We must all work to bring peace to the region, "said Maia Sandu.
Charles Michel reiterated the EU's intention to support Moldova in managing the flow of refugees and announced that the EU will support our country politically and economically.
"Our economic and political support will continue. Our energy procurement platform will be open to Moldova. Now it is even more important to be united and to support the resilience of the Republic of Moldova ", said Charles Michel.
