Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/ - Children from Moldova might submit complaints to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child. This is provided for in the Optional Protocol to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on a Communications Procedure, discussed by the members of parliament’s commission for foreign policy and European integration today.
Thus, the treaty establishes the international procedure of submitting complaints for the infringement of the rights of the child, as well as the procedure of interstate communication and investigation of serious or systemic infringements.
The goal of this protocol is to ensure the level of knowledge of the rights among children and allow them to submit complaints directly to the UN Committee.
The document is to be considered in parliament’s plenum.
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 20 November 1989 and Moldova ratified it in 1990.
