Moldovan president visits survivor of Leningrad's siege from Moldova

Chisinau, 6 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today, on the eve of the 9 May day, visited veteran Evghenia Pancișchina, in order to thank her for the lives saved during the World War II. Evghenia Pancișchina is to turn 100 years in next September and is the last survivor of Leningrad’s siege from Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
Evghenia Pancișchina was born in Chisinau and finished the lyceum for girls Regina Maria (Queen Marry); afterwards, Evghenia went to front, where she treated wounded soldiers at a hospital near Leningrad. Following the war, Pancișchina worked as nurse at the Maternity Hospital No 2 from Chisinau and the Centre of Mother and Child. Hundreds of families from Moldova know and respect her. She has two children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The head of state wished Evghenia Pancișchina good health and power, in order to enjoy along with the close people the sun and a peaceful blue sky. ‘’On 9 May, we will commemorate the victims of the World War II; we will mark the sacrifice and self-denial of the veterans who neared its end. We are obliged to preserve peace for them, while honouring the work and courage of the people like Evghenia, the last survivor of Leningrad’s siege from Moldova,’’ President Maia Sandu stressed.
