Moldovan speaker meets German Bundestag vice president

Chisinau, May 7 / MOLDPRES /- Speaker Igor Grosu met today with Katrin Göring-Eckardt, Vice-President of the German Bundestag, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

Attending the event were deputy speaker Mihail Popșoi, Member of the Friendship Group with Germany, and the Chairman of the Committee on Social Protection, Health and Family, Dan Perciun, Chair of the Friendship Group.

Igor Grosu provided a comprehensive picture of the situation in the Republic of Moldova in the context of the invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and the political, humanitarian and economic challenges facing our country.

The talks focused in particular on the Ukrainian refugee crisis and the efforts of the authorities to deal with this unprecedented situation. The Republic of Moldova is doing its utmost to maintain the safety of refugees and continues to rely on the support of European countries.

The situation in the Transnistrian region, which the Moldovan authorities are closely monitoring, was also discussed.

The speaker also mentioned that the Republic of Moldova considers crucial the support of Germany for the promotion of the European agenda of our country. "The Moldovan authorities are fully aware that there is enormous work to be done on the country's internal reform, a process that has already begun in key areas such as justice and the fight against corruption," Igor Grosu said.

The issue of energy diversification and Moldova's determination to increase its independence in this sector was also addressed.

In conclusion, he thanked the German delegation for the visit to the Republic of Moldova during this difficult period and for the openness to help our country.
