Moldovan president meets European Commission President

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today continued her visit to Brussels with a discussion with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The meeting was focused on the major impact of the war in Ukraine on Moldova and the region, on the whole, the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state appreciated the European institutions’ openness to back Moldova in the management of the crises faced by the country. In the context, President Maia Sandu asked to abolish the quotas of export for Moldovan products and for support to purchase fertilizers, needed for agricultural works. Also, the Moldovan president said the Chisinau authorities relied on a quicker transferring of the first installment of budgetary support, which will support the government’s efforts of recovering the economy and ensuring the country’s energy security.
„The European Union is the most important economic and development partner of Moldova and the European integration means a strong impetus for the modernization of the key sectors and for improving the living of our citizens,’’ President Maia Sandu said at the end of the meeting with the European Commission President.
