Moldova's social, economic development priority of World Bank for next five years

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/ - The World Bank has confirmed its commitment to back the most important and urgent fields of development of Moldova, such as the social and economic one, including the energy sector. Statements to this effect were made at a today’s meeting of Government’s Secretary General Dumitru Udrea with World Bank Country Director for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Arup Banerji, on an official visit to Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
„Moldova’s government appreciates the sustainable partnership with the World Bank and, on this occasion, I want to emphasize that now, more than ever, we need support, in order to carry our systemic and structural changes and reforms in the economic and social sectors, including through paying increased attention to ensuring the country’s food and energy security,’’ Dumitru Udrea said.
For his part, Arup Banerji said: “The World Bank has been with Moldova for 30 years already and on this period we helped the country develop its infrastructure and backed the progress of the social and economic reforms. Given the crises faced by Moldova at present, we will continue providing this support for a long term.’’
The meeting took place in the context of the new Strategy of Partnership with Moldova for the next five years. The document will be worked out in cooperation with Moldova’s government and will meet the national priorities set forth by the cabinet.
