Moldovan diplomacy head meets foreign secretary of United Kingdom

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom Liz Truss, on the sidelines of the Council of Europe’s ministerial meeting in Turin. The meeting took place shortly after the recent participation of the two officials in the meeting of the foreign affairs ministers of the G7 states.

According to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service, the sides discussed the latest developments in the region, in the wake of Russia’s war against Ukraine, as well as its repercussions on Moldova, especially as regards the humanitarian crisis, the economic and social impact on the country.

„We touched upon the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, including the sectors which bring concrete benefits to the citizens: liberalization of commerce and strengthening the national institutions’; capacities to combat corruption,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.

The Moldovan official thanked for the support of the United Kingdom for Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The officials reiterated both countries’ commitment to promote the democracy and human rights, based on the common values.
