Joint meeting of juridical commissions, foreign policy commissions of Moldovan, Romanian parliaments held in Iasi

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/ - The members of the juridical commissions and the foreign policy commissions of Moldova’s parliament and of Romania’s Senate today participated in a joint meeting, held in Iasi, Romania, the parliament’s communication and public relations general department has reported.
Participating in the event, held in hybrid form, both with physical presence and online, were Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, Deputy Speaker of the Romanian Senate Robert Cazanciuc, the heads of the juridical commissions of the Chisinau and Bucharest parliaments, Olesea Stamate and Laura-Iuliana Scantei, the heads of the commissions for foreign policies of the two parliaments, Doina Gherman and Titus Corlatean, Justice Ministers Sergiu Litvinenco and Catalin Predoiu, other officials.
In the beginning of the joint meeting, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said that the today’s meeting was part of a string of events, which would convey a quite clear signal for the political establishments from Chisinau and Bucharest, as well as to the community of European Union states that Moldova deserved and must be member of the European Union.
”We stay consistent to our commitment of European integration. We appreciate the constant assistance of Romania, which has been and, I am sure, will be the principal advocate of Moldova on this path,’’ Speaker Igor Grosu said.
In her speech, the head of the Moldovan parliament’s commission for foreign policy and European integration, Doina Gherman, thanked Romania for the firm support and the clear recognition of Moldova’s European perspective.
”Our goal is to become more resistant and self-sufficient, in order to be able to back the European Union and the European community through reciprocity. Moldova’s full integration in the European space, standards and values will help us bring more democracy, stability and security to the European community,’’ Doina Gherman said.
For his part, the head of the Romanian Senate’s commission for foreign policy, Titus Corlatean, said that this meeting was a special one, as it is held in a special moment of mobilization for Moldova’s support in its important European objectives.
The head of the Moldovan parliament’s juridical commission for appointments and immunities, Olesea Stamate, appreciated the bilateral cooperation and dialogue at the institutional and political levels of the two parliaments’ juridical commissions. The lawmaker expressed confidence in the political support on behalf of Romania’s parliament, both for the promotion of Moldova’s European integration agenda and in the carrying out of the justice reform.
”We rely on the constant support of Romania for speeding up the European integration and giving Moldova the status of country candidate for the European Union,’’ Olesea Stamate said.
The head of the juridical commission for appointments, discipline, immunities and validations of Romania’s Senate, Laura-Iuliana Scantei, gave assurances that the Romanian state would continue constantly and consistently supporting the Moldovan authorities in achieving the goals as to the European integration of Moldova, which it assumed firmly.
In the end of the meeting, the sides signed a joint declaration of the juridical and foreign policy commissions of the parliaments of Moldova and Romania.
The declaration expresses firm determination to continue the close cooperation and coordination in the fields of competence and mutual interest, including in the parliamentary sector, for backing the development of the bilateral agenda and promoting the priorities of cooperation agreed upon between Romania and Moldova, especially on the need to accelerate Moldova’s European integration process.
At the same time, at the joint meeting, the officials showed interest in the organization of a joint meeting of the Moldovan and Romanian parliaments in the near future.
