French Development Agency to support Moldova's railways, energy system

Chisinau, May 24 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova has signed a memorandum with the French Development Agency (AFD) that will contribute to important reforms in the field of railways, as well as to the modernization of the energy system in the country. Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development made the statement today, who held a press conference in Chisinau with AFD Director-General Rémy Rioux.

"First of all, our country will benefit from technical assistance for Moldelectrica and Moldovan Railway, amounting to eight hundred thousand euros. Also, for the first time in our country, a forum dedicated to railway transport will be organized ", said Spinu.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, another additional document, approved on behalf of the Government, provides for a support of 60 million euros to support the country's budget.

Rémy Rioux said that France is a reliable partner of the Republic of Moldova and will support development projects initiated by the country's authorities, "projects that are ambitious, important, but also complicated to achieve in the current conditions caused by post-pandemic, war, rising prices and energy crisis ".

The visit to Chisinau of the head of the French Development Agency takes place after last week's meeting of President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu in Paris. The head of state had a meeting with Remy Rioux, and the discussion referred to the projects that AFD will carry out in the Republic of Moldova this year.

The French Development Agency operates investments worth 12 billion euros a year in more than 130 countries around the world.
