Company on left bank of Dniester risks being liquidated after smuggling over two million packs of cigarettes

Chisinau, May 25 / MOLDPRES /- The Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) said today it has sued the company that illegally introduced in the country over two million packs of cigarettes worth over 7.7 million lei (about 385 thousand euros) from the United Arab Emirates.
According to the PCCOCS, the company used a license that allowed the introduction into the country only of tobacco products that had excise stamps applied on the package, while in the case of the captured batch, the packages were not stamped.
The company's administration is suspected of the crime of smuggling, which according to the law is punishable by a fine of up to 550,000 lei, deprivation of the right to exercise a certain activity or its liquidation.
Regarding the customs broker involved, the criminal investigations continue, during which time both he and the company registered on the left bank of the Dniester plead not guilty.
