Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today participated in an event on presentation of the draft Electoral Code and proposals on the amendment of the electoral legislation. The action was organized by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
In his greeting message, Igor Grosu referred to four problems identified during years and which must be remedied: the voting in the Diaspora; financing of the electoral campaigns; fair publicizing; modernization of the electoral process.
”The issue of voting in the Diaspora - we saw mow many adventures people experienced during time: the number of polling stations; interference of the political factors with establishing the polling stations; interminable queues, which made us happy versus citizens’ frustrations, who stayed there for ours. There are solutions and this is the digitalization and modernization of the electoral process,’’ the parliament speaker said.
Igor Grosu touched upon the correct financing of the electoral campaign. ‘’During all these years, we have had various electoral actors; some of them observed and the others defied. This defiance occurred, as it was tolerated by the system. Here I ask for a zero tolerance to corruption.’’
The observance of the freedom of expression, fair, balanced and impartial publicizing of the elections are other goals which should be clearly defined, including from the perspective of promotion of the political pluralism in mass media, as well as fight against the misinformation and information manipulation of the society.
The parliament speaker congratulated CEC for the efforts it makes, in order to modernize the electoral legislation. He voiced confidence that this work would contribute to the transparentizing of the polls in Moldova, so that the voter is confident in the value of his/her vote and the political actors should work in equal conditions.
