Moldova counts on support of Czech Republic in European integration process

Chisinau, 26 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavský, in the context of a visit to Prague, occasioned by the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Moldova and the Czech Republic and for the promotion of Moldova’s European integration agenda, given that the Czech Republic will hold the Presidency of the European Union’s Council in the second half of 2022, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
The goal of Moldova’s accession to EU represented a central subject of the discussion; the sides exchanged opinions on the priorities of the Czech Presidency.
„I informed Minister Jan Lipavský that we count on the support of the Czech Republic in the European integration process, following the carrying out of the reforms’ agenda and the country’s modernization, in line with the EU standards. Our efforts of development are aimed also at continuously attracting Czech investments in the national economy, as well as at increasing the exports to the Czech market,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu said.
The interlocutors discussed the bilateral agenda, including the political dialogue, the assistance for development and the boosting of the commercial and economic relations between the two countries. The sides also tackled the security situation in the region, in the context of the war in Ukraine and the social and economic impact on Moldova, the humanitarian assistance provided by the Czech authorities to Moldova to manage the refuges’ crisis.
„We talked about the carrying out of more initiatives for the benefit of our citizens: I asked for support, in order to advance in the direction of abolishing the present quotas according to the Moldova-European Union Association Agreement for the export of Moldovan products to EU. I also spoke out for the cutting of the roaming taxes between our countries,’’ the Moldovan diplomacy head said.
At the same time, the two officials approached the possibility to strengthen the commercial and economic cooperation between the two countries through the turning to good account of the present potential and increasing the volume of the bilateral trade exchanges. In the context, the sides agreed on organizing the fifth session of the Moldovan-Czech inter-governmental commission for economic cooperation in Chisinau and holding a forum of business people.
The officials also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation between the Diplomatic Institute of Moldova’s Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry and the Diplomatic Academy of the Czech Foreign Affairs Ministry.
