Moldovan diplomacy head has meeting with Czech lawmakers

Chisinau, 26 May /MOLDPRES/ - The agenda of the visit to Prague by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has included a meeting with a delegation of Czech MPs, led by senator, head of the committee on foreign affairs, defence and security of the Czech Parliament’s Senate, Pavel Fischer, the deputy head of the Senate’s committee on foreign affairs, defence and security, Jan Sobotka, the head of the committee on EU affairs, David Smoljak.
According to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service, during the discussions, the Moldovan official welcomed the consolidation of the Moldovan-Czech inter-parliamentary dialogue, boosting of the sectoral cooperation between the two countries, as well as the Czech development assistance.
The meeting occasioned discussions on the security situation in the region, in the context of the war in Ukraine, the social and economic impact on Moldova, as well as on the humanitarian assistance provided to Moldova by the Czech authorities, in order to manage the humanitarian crisis.
The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the priorities of the Czech Presidency of the European Union’s Council in the second half of this year. Minister Nicu Popescu stressed that Moldova’s goal was the process of country’s modernization, the programme of reforms and the European agenda. In the context, he asked for the support on behalf of the Czech Republic for Moldova’s European integration.
„The getting of the status of country candidate for EU is a strategic direction for our independence, for peaceful development and the social and economic recovery. The Czech lawmakers expressed support for our European integration,’’ the Moldovan diplomacy head added.
