Moldova to ratify Memorandum with World Food Programme

Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament is to soon ratify a memorandum with the World Food Programme (WFP), in order to facilitate the providing of humanitarian assistance to refugees from Ukraine and the host families from Moldova.
The members of the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration, the ones of the commission for economy, budget and finances and the members of the commission for social protection, health and family today gave a positive notification to a draft on ratification of the memorandum of understanding with WFP.
The document establishes the principal commitments of the World Food Programme’s activity: import and delivery of food products, direct providing of financial means both to refugees from Ukraine and host families from Moldova, coordinating logistic aspects dealing with the depositing and carriage of humanitarian assistance to mayoralties, placement centres and emergency shelters. The WFP operations will be carried out in the east European region for the first time ever.
The World Food Programme, being the biggest humanitarian organization in the world, has the goal to consolidate the food security and combat the famine. Over 80 countries have benefited from WFP’s assistance so far.
