Moldovan PM has meeting with PACE Co-rapporteurs

Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today met the co-rapporteurs of the monitoring committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Inese Lībiņa-Egnere and Pierre-Alain Fridez. The officials exchanged opinions on the processes of democratic consolidation and improving the supremacy of law, launched by the Moldovan cabinet, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported. 

The PM spoke about the important measures to this end, among which the reform of the prosecutor’s office, of the judicial system and the adoption of the so-called pre-vetting law, under which the integrity of potential candidates for the office of member of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) and the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) will be verified. At the same time, the government ensured a balance between the management of the emergency state and ensuring the human rights, for instance, by ensuring the participation of the Ombudsman in the meetings of the Commission for Emergency Situations, and allowing the holding of rallies.     

For their part, the delegation members said that, despite all crises, Moldova made progress in the field of strengthening the democratic institutions and reforming the justice sector. Also, they specified that, since the last meeting in October 2021, the government had achieved all goals discussed and continued to successfully implement the reforms’ agenda.  

The sides also touched upon Moldova’s European integration, stressing the importance of its accomplishment, including through a close cooperation between Moldova and the Council of Europe.
