Chisinau, 9 June /MOLDPRES/ - The European Commission today proposed to double the quotas of export for seven categories of products, for which tariff quotas are applied at the entrance on the European Union’s market.
Romanian European MP Siegfried Muresan has written on a social network that the decision was welcome, as the war in Ukraine badly hit the farmers from Moldova, who were no longer able to export their goods to countries from the East.
„This is a very good decision, which I support and which I want that we adopt it in the European Parliament as quickly as possible. Namely therefore, I asked more times that we liberalize the exports of agricultural products from Moldova to the European market. I asked for this including in the resolution on Moldova, which we adopted on 5 May. EU is already the principal economic partner of Moldova and the biggest common market of the world. Hence, an increase of the commerce will be easy to be absorbed by the European countries and will help Moldova’s economy,’’ the European official said.
According to the Economics Ministry, the European Union is presently the principal commercial partner of Moldova. About 70 per cent of the Moldovan exports are directed to the European market and the imports account for about 50 per cent.
