Rescuers launched drowning prevention campaign

Chisinau, June 13 / MOLDPRES /- A drowning prevention campaign in the summer was launched today by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) within the Ministry of Interior. The action took place at Valea Morilor Lake in the capital.

At the beginning of the event, IGSU deputy head Anatolie Viniciuc said that during the summer, the number of drowning cases increases significantly, that is why several prevention actions are carried out annually.

"The campaign aims to save lives through information. In the last 20 years, 3,900 citizens have drowned in the country's water pools, including 635 children. This year alone, 10 drownings have been reported, including one child. We urge citizens to rest only in landscaped and safe lakes, where rescuers will be able to intervene in case of danger. This year, 35 people were rescued from drowning in the water basins, where rescue stations are set up ", said Anatolie Viniciuc.

At the event, rescuers conducted a demonstration exercise, and SMURD employees presented first aid maneuvers in case of drowning and came up with useful recommendations for people, in order to avoid the risk of bathing situations.

At the same time, during the campaign, IGSU employees and police officers will train economic agents who own water pools, carry out joint raids on lakes in the country and will go to rest camps to inform children about the risks during bathing. At the same time, information panels will be installed near the lakes. Parents are also urged to supervise their children while they are near water pools. Rescuers also advised people not to drink alcohol while bathing.

According to IGSU data, in total, in the Republic of Moldova there are 3600 lakes and ponds that are not for recreational use and where bathing is not indicated. Last year, during the summer, 56 people died in the country's water pools.
