Ombudspersons unveil reports in Moldova's parliament

Chisinau, 16 June /MOLDPRES/ - The report on the observance of the human rights and freedoms in Moldova in 2021 was presented at the plenary meeting in parliament today. The information was unveiled by Ombudsman Ceslav Panico and the Ombudswoman for the rights of the child, Maia Banarescu.    

According to the report, in 2021, the institution received 1,081 applications. The authorities make reference to the infringement of human rights, especially the right to a fair action at law, the right to life, physical and psychic integrity, right to healthcare, right to individual freedom and the right to social assistance and protection.    

Ombudsman Ceslav Panico highlighted the good cooperation with the parliamentary commission for human rights and interethnic relations. He noted that this framework gave the ombudsman possibility to make proposals, ideals and recommendations, which are taken into account by MPs and other authorities of the state.  

For her part, Ombudswoman for the rights of the child, Maia Banarescu, said that she had received 150 applications during the last year. The applications regarded the violence against children, the duties and obligations of the biological parents, the rights of children suspected, accused or found guilty of violation of the criminal law, etc. The Ombudswoman for the rights of the child said the number of applications was decreasing.     

According to the legislative procedure, the parliament appoints two autonomous ombudspersons to each other and one of them is specialized in issues of protection of the rights and freedoms of the child.
