Chisinau, June 23 / MOLDPRES /- The decision to grant the Republic of Moldova the status of candidate country for accession to the European Union is, first of all, the merit of our citizens. The statement was made this evening by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița.
The Prime Minister emphasized that our citizens showed courage when they opted for the European project. "At a crucial moment in history, citizens have found the courage, determination and discernment to shake off the oligarchy and to vote en masse for political forces that have firmly and honestly assumed the European project for Moldova. The announcement made by the European Union today that the Republic of Moldova is accepted as an EU candidate country is fantastic news for all our citizens who love democracy and freedom. It is the fruit of the efforts made by all those who supported the change, the fight against corruption and defended, sometimes with great sacrifices, the common values of the European space ", said Natalia Gavrilița.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers specified that granting this status will open new opportunities for our country. "I want to assure you that the support we received today from 27 member states of the European Union is a huge reason for joy for all. And it's not just about new funds and new projects that are going to make our lives better, but about the opportunities that are opening up to our society, economy and citizens. It is a new road that we are stepping on, a road of sustainable transformations, a road that many countries have gone before us, countries that we visit and admire today. We are on the right path ", remarked Natalia Gavrilița.
The decision of the European Council on granting the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine the status of candidate country for accession to the European Union was approved unanimously. The application for our country's accession to the EU was signed by the President of the Republic of Moldova on March 3.
