Chisinau, June 24 / MOLDPRES /- The states of the European Union have expressed their desire for the Republic of Moldova to join the EU family, where we will have more security and we can count on the support of European countries and institutions. The statement was made today by the head of state, Maia Sandu, following the decision of the European Council to grant Moldova the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union.
The official stressed that the place of the Republic of Moldova is in the European Union. "It is a goal that we have been pursuing for many years and it has been supported by most citizens, that is why the decision of the European Council is the merit of our citizens, who want a rule of law, where democracy will be at the table. This event does not change things in our country overnight, but offers greater support to create development opportunities for entrepreneurs and to change the lives of citizens for the better. We are facing a major crisis and we are going through a complicated period due to the war in Ukraine. However, we are looking for solutions to help people by offering financial support from the Government ", remarked Maia Sandu.
The President of the country mentioned that, after obtaining the status of candidate state for EU membership, our country will carry out a series of reforms in the field of justice, fighting corruption, improving governance and ensuring a competitive environment.
"The presidency, the government and the parliament will continue to work every day for the country's development to continue. Our country has real chances for development and we are determined to move forward on the road to the EU. We need the alignment of political forces, state institutions and the private sector. This is the only way we can raise the country to the highest level. I am convinced that it is possible. The project we are starting now will take several years, it is the project of our generation, and its success will depend on all of us. We will do everything for the citizens to live in peace, stability and well-being ", said Maia Sandu.
On Thursday evening, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine received the status of candidate country for accession to the European Union. The decision of the European Council was approved unanimously.
