Chisinau, 6 July /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian has had a meeting with Special Representative of the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office for Transnistrian  Settlement Process Thomas Mayr-Harting, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.

The officials discussed topical subjects on the Transnistrian settlement process. In the context, the sides exchanged opinions on the Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue, as well as perspectives of advancement of the process of negotiations.

At the same time, the deputy PM pointed out some pressing problems in the region. Thus, the present weather conditions show the major importance of the coordinated and rational use of the water resources from the Dniester river. While the Ukrainian partners fulfill their obligations as to the control of the river’s flow of water, the hydro-electric dam at Dubasari triggers problems, which have negative repercussions on the level of water on the lower course of Dniester.

Serebrian also said that Tiraspol had extended the access of farmers from the Dubasari district to their farmlands only till 31 August 2022; or the farmers need the certainty of the access to the land which they own permanently and unconditionally, according to the commitments from the protocol decision from 25 November 2017.

The Moldovan deputy PM, with special concern, emphasized the critical situation in terms of the observance of human rights in Moldova’s eastern districts, especially in the context of Tiraspol’s recent approach to punish, under the Criminal Code, petitioners or residents from the region who notify Moldova’s competent authorities about abuses to which they were subjected in the region and this state of this things is unacceptable and inadmissible in the light of the international law standards.

Oleg Serebrian stressed Chisinau’s openness to build a dialogue based on trust and amiable overcoming of all pressing problems, with the use of the present dialogue platforms, by directing efforts to the achievement of the goal of peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, within the sovereign and fully reintegrated state Republic of Moldova.

The Moldovan official called on the OSCE Special Representative to have an active and substantial contribution, in order to mark tangible progress on the dimensions tackled.
