Chisinau, 6 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today discussed with President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, during her working visit to Vilnius, the presidential press service has reported.
The subjects tackled were focused on the political, economic and security situation of the two countries, in the context of the war started by Russia against Ukraine and the crises the states were facing. ‘’I thanked Mr. President for support of Lithuania to overcome these crises and for the personal backing provided to Moldova to get the status of country candidate to EU. I am happy to know that we can further rely on the help and assistance of Lithuania in the process of our country’s accession to the European Union,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
In Vilnius, the head of state was awarded the Order of Vytautas the Great, the highest state distinction of Lithuania. The order was offered to President Maia Sandu as a token of appreciation for the good cooperation between the two countries and for the huge generosity proved by the Moldovans in supporting Ukrainian refugees.
„I accepted this distinction on behalf of all Moldova’s citizens,’’ Maia Sandu said. ‘’We have edified, during 30 years, strong bilateral relations between Moldova and Lithuania. We want to develop them in continuation, for the good of the people from our both countries,’’ Maia Sandu said in the end of the meeting.
