Moldovan president has meetings with Lithuanian parliament speaker, PM

Chisinau, 6 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu had meetings with Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen and Prime Minister  Ingrida Šimonytė in Vilnius today afternoon. The discussions were focused on the political, economic and security challenges the two states were facing following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the consequences of the war, as well as the Moldovan-Lithuanian bilateral relations, the presidential press service has reported.   

At the meeting with Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, the head of state reiterated Moldova’s commitment to advance on the way of reforms and, in this context, the importance of the cooperation on the parliamentary dimension between the two countries. President Maia Sandu said that Lithuania’s legislative experience can be helpful to Moldova especially now, when the country got the status of country candidate for EU, respectively, it must advance in the process of adjusting the national legislation to the European one.  

In her discussion with the Lithuanian prime minister, President Maia Sandu thanked Ingrida Šimonytė for the constant support provided to Moldova by Lithuania, for development projects, for strengthening the democracy and free media, for combating the misinformation, as well as for ensuring the energy and economic resilience in Moldova. The interlocutors expressed determination to further provide the needed assistance to Ukraine and the refugees who come from the neighbour country and agreed on extending the Moldovan-Lithuanian commercial and economic cooperation.
