New contingent of Moldovan servicemen to participate in KFOR peacekeeping mission

Chisinau, 8 July /MOLDPRES/ - The National Army today detached the 17th contingent of peacekeepers to the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.

Attending the event, Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii said that those 40 servicemen Moldova was sending to the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo are trained according to the international requirements and would be inter-operable with the armies of the partner states, ensuring peace and security in the Balkan region.  

„Those 16 contingents which Moldova has detached to KFOR so far proved that the National Army is a reliable partner and has well-trained military. We are expecting the same performances from the contingent of peacekeepers which is to start its mandate in Kosovo in several days. We thank the partners from Italy and the United States for the logistic assistance and training provided to servicemen of the National Army, in order to fulfill the mandate in Kosovo,’’ Anatolie Nosatii said.     

At the ceremony, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon stressed that the 17th contingent, detached to KFOR, was an extra proof that Moldova’s National Army is a capable force, on which other nations can rely, contributing to the international peace. ‘’Through the participation in this peacekeeping operation, the National Army will gain valuable experience, which will enhance the present capabilities and the degree of education for the most important mission – the one of protecting Moldova,’’ Ambassador Logsdon stressed.       

The KFOR-17 contingent of the National Army is made up of 40 servicemen, infantrymen and specialists in sapper army, who will fulfill missions of security and guard of military objects and of patrolling the area of responsibility. The Moldovan military will be part of the  Regional Command-West and will be deployed at the military base Camp Villaggio Italia in the Pech settlement, Kosovo. The servicemen’s mandate lasts six months.
