Pensioners' situation constant concern of governance, Moldovan president says

Chisinau, 21 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met a group of representatives of the Pensioners’ Union. The discussion was focused on the current problems of the elderly people, as well as the actions undertaken by the governance to back them, the presidential press service has reported.   

The representatives of the Pensioners’ Union referred to the situation of the elderly people in Moldova, stressing their wish to get involved in social projects and help the pensioners. The head of state said she fully shared the concerns of the elderly people and the need to improve their access to the medical and social services. Maia Sandu emphasized that, in less than one year, the authorities had increased the minimum pension by 68 per cent up to 2,278 lei and the average pension - by 40 per cent. The anticipated pension was introduced and the mechanism of pension’s indexation was changed, in order to include, besides the inflation, the criterion of economic growth.

President Maia Sandu noted that the situation of the pensioners, especially the low-income ones, remained one of the constant concerns of the governance. The head of state also said that decision-makers worked on a programme of measures to compensate the costs borne by the pensioners during the cold season, as well as to identify sources for creating a fund due to finance social services meant for this category of pensioners.
