Moldovan PM, U.S. official discuss consolidation of Moldovan-American cooperation in energy sector

Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita has discussed with Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Energy David Turk in Washington. The sides exchanged opinions on the current vulnerabilities in Moldova’s energy security and measures needed for attenuating the impact of the energy crisis on the end consumers, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM stressed that, at present, the Moldovan authorities’ efforts were focused on the diversification of the routes of supply with energy resources, their change with alternative ones, enhancing the capacities for the renewable energy and ensuring the medium- and long-term energy efficiency. At the same time, the authorities continue to undertake measures of backing the residents hit by the crisis – the creation of the fund of reducing the energy vulnerability has been recently created, in order to diminish the impact of the increase in prices for energy on the socially vulnerable consumers.
„We committed to reduce the burden of invoices for all those who need support, as well as to speed up the reforms in the energy sector. To succeed in the process of reforms and prepare the energy system for our European future, we rely on the support of the USA and consolidation of the Moldovan-American partnership to this end,’’ Natalia Gavrilita emphasized.
In the context, the officials reiterated the need to reduce the dependence on the import of energy and natural gas, through the conclusion of new viable partnerships. The sides also stressed the importance of the strategic investments in the energy sector and carrying out of projects due to contribute to the development of the market and enhancing the level of the country’s energy security.
