Moldova's team recorded best result at World Chess Olympiad

Chisinau, August 10 /MOLDPRES/- Our country's team recorded the best result in the history of the Republic of Moldova's participation in the World Chess Olympiad, the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) announced today.
Men's team of the Republic of Moldova defeated the England team with a score of 2.5 to 1.5 in the last round of the World Chess Olympiad 2022. Ivan Schițco (2490 FIDE rating) drew with Michael Adams (2696). Iulian Baltag (2405) drew with Gawain Jones (2551), and Dragoș Cereș (2378) - with Ravi Haria (2505). "The fate of the match was decided by Vladimir Hamițevici (2466) who defeated Luke McShane (2638). The Republic of Moldova accumulated 17 points - seven wins and three draws, ranking sixth, this being the best result in the history of Moldova's participation in the World Chess Olympiad", explained the institution.
This year, the World Chess Olympiad took place from July 28 to August 10 in Chennai, India. The sports competition is usually held in two team tournaments, one mixed and one female. 188 teams competed in the 2022 edition.
