IFAD to provide grants for climate change adaptation in agriculture

Chisinau, August 22 /MOLDPRES/- The Rural Resilience Project, financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), announced that it is continuing the III Call for submission of grant requests for the financing of measures to adapt agricultural production systems to climate change. The call for grants will be open throughout the current year until the financial resources are exhausted.

"The Consolidated Project Implementation Unit (UCIP) IFAD grants financial support to agricultural producers in the form of a grant for the implementation of climate change adaptation initiatives in agricultural activities. For registered businesses/individuals - up to five thousand dollars per beneficiary. For cooperatives - up to 15 thousand dollars per beneficiary", indicates the institution.

To be eligible, they must meet the following conditions: be active for at least one year; to have land that does not exceed 25 ha; to have no debts to the budget and to have sufficient financial sources to ensure their own contribution, which constitutes 70% of the investment cost for individuals and 50% for cooperatives. Applicants will complete a funding application, which can be downloaded from the UCIP IFAD web page.

The Rural Resilience Project, financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development, through the Adaptation Program for small producers and implemented by the IFAD Consolidated Project Implementation Unit, is designed to improve the living conditions of the rural population, reduce poverty by strengthening resilience to climate change and improve economic opportunities.

The collaboration between the Republic of Moldova and the International Fund for Agricultural Development began in 1999. Until now, the fund has supported projects in our country, the beneficiaries of which are more than 130 thousand people. In Moldova, IFAD assistance aims to improve the incomes and living conditions of people in rural areas. The activities are intended for small owners, farmers, small-scale livestock producers, rural women, young people from different areas of the country, etc.
