Chisinau, August 22 /MOLDPRES/- Basarabeasca-Berezino (Ukraine) railway section was put into operation today, after being built from scratch, in just two months, according to Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, who participated in the inauguration ceremony.

"We went with Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov to see the result of the works. Now, in times of war, when our countries have consolidated their forces, we have, after 25 years, given another chance to this section of railway which, from September, will serve for the transport of goods, with the possibility of expansion in the future, and for passenger transport. The operation of this railway will contribute to the development of the entire region, including creating jobs", he said.

For the reconstruction of the railway segment in our country, Calea Ferată din Moldova has allocated over one million euros. The reopening of the Basarabeasca-Berezino section will allow the daily transportation of approximately 12 thousand tons of goods, significantly reducing congestion at the Reni port.

Spinu said "from September, our country will be able to export/import goods through the Ismail port, located on the Danube, as congestion in the Reni port will be reduced. At the same time, Ukraine will be able to export goods to the Republic of Moldova and to the countries of the European Union".

The construction of the section was carried out over a distance of approximately 23 km, of which 1.2 km of railway were built on the territory of Moldova. The new railway section will connect Ismail port and Belgorod-Dnestrovski, as well as Artîz and Zatoka stations.
