Moldovan government approves creation of demographic, social statistics information system

Chisinau, August 24 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova's population, structure, mobility and demographic, social and economic characteristics will be found in an information system, due to be developed by the National Bureau of Statistics. A draft decision on creation of the Demographic and Social Statistics information platform was approved at today's cabinet meeting, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Statistical indicators on the number of the population, as well as its characteristics will be used for the development and monitoring of national and sectoral policies, for the planning process of the state budget and external assistance.

At the same time, the data collected through the system will contribute to the implementation of measures for the recovery of the demographic and social situation, given that in the Republic of Moldova, as in other European countries, there is a continuous decrease in the birth rate, the aging of the population, as wel as the intensification of migration internally from the rural to the urban environment.

The creation, implementation, operation and development of the system will be carried out by the National Bureau of Statistics, within the limits of the financial means allocated annually from the state budget.
