Moldovan government approves regulation on management of used tires

Chisinau, 1 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The Cabinet approved today the Regulation on the management of used tires, which establishes a set of requirements on the collection, reuse, as well as the energy recovery or recycling of used tires, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
Manufacturers, distributors, consumers and economic agents involved in the management of used tires will take the measures provided for in the Regulation to optimize the separate collection of used tires. The measures will contribute substantially to the implementation of the principle of extended producer responsibility (REP).
Thus, the document obliges the economic agents, tire producers, to have an environmental permit and to ensure the creation of a collection network for used tires through car service centers, commercial centers, parking. The implementation of the project will be ensured by the Environmental Agency and the Environment Protection Inspectorate.
Under the Regulation, both private people and legal entities will be obliged to hand over used tires to authorized collection points. Burial and abandonment of tires will also be prohibited.
With the approval of the Regulation, the Government proposes the energy recovery and recycling of at least 75% of the total amount of used tire waste collected by 2026.
