President appreciated USAID's contribution to modernization, development of Moldova

Chisinau, 15 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu participated in an event dedicated to the 30 years of activity of the US Agency for International Development in our country. The head of state's message reads that for three decades USAID contributed to the transformation of bilateral relations between Moldova and the United States into a strong friendship, the presidential press service has reported.
Maia Sandu said that USAID supported Moldova both in building democratic institutions and the rule of law, as well as in economic development. Thus, our country benefited from funds for the modernization of some essential areas of the economy - agriculture, education, IT, light and creative industry, tourism -, for the development of the wine sector and the improvement of the business environment. We are also supported in fighting corruption and reforming justice, in strengthening civil society and independent media.
The President thanked USAID for the support and solidarity that Moldova has felt all these years and which helps us to strengthen the state, society and economy, in order to build a prosperous and safe state. "The fact that we are not alone on this road gives us more strength, courage and optimism", Maia Sandu said.
On the sidelines of the event, Maia Sandu had a short meeting with Erin McKee, Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia, and discussed the prospects for bilateral collaboration.
