Assumption of Mother of God Church from Moldovan town inaugurated after restoration

Chisinau, 18 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Assumption of Mother of God Church from the south-eastern Causeni town was inaugurated after more years of restoration on 17 September.
Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan on 17 September accompanied U.S. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova Kent Logsdon in Causeni, where America Days were held. The manifestation on the inauguration of the Assumption of Mother of God Church, after more years of restoration, was part of the agenda in Causeni.
„The restoration of the church, unique in Moldova, the interior walls of which are covered with frescoes painted by Wallachian painters in 1763, is a huge contribution of the American nation to the turning to good account of our national cultural heritage. I express gratitude to the American nation for the support provided in the restoration and preservation of the national heritage,’’ Sergiu Prodan said at the event.
Since 2016, the Embassy of the United States has provided an overall budget of 1,069,603 dollars, through the Ambassadors’ Fund for Cultural Preservation of the U.S. Government, for the restoration of the church. The project‘s implementer, the Public Association Centre of Archaeological Researches from Moldova, carried out archaeological diggigs, constructed a new sewerage and electricity system, replaced the masonry and the roof of the church, built an airing system, consolidated the frescoes, etc. The last sum, worth 324,000 dollars, allocated by Moldova’s government for this architecture monument of national importance, was for infrastructure and area management works.
The Assumption of Mother of God Church from Causeni is a unique architecture monument in this part of Europe, a symbol of the continuation of the Orthodox faith and spirituality of our nation. The church will be included in the internal and international tourist circulation.
