Chisinau, 20 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The fight against corruption in Moldova and the experience of European countries in the sector were the main issues at a meeting between Government's Secretary General Dumitru Udrea and delegation of EPAC/EACN Board, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
It is in Chisinau to prepare the annual conference of practitioners in the anti-corruption sector from the member states of the Council of Europe and the EU member states. In 2022, EPAC/EACN chose to organize the event in Chisinau, after in 2021 it was held in Vilnius, Lithuania, and in 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden.
"Governance efficiency is measured by the degree of people's trust in state institutions and central and local public administration. Therefore, a decisive precondition for the sustainable development of the country is the existence of a professional, efficient, responsible, transparent public administration at all levels and of course, without any trace of corruption", Udrea said.
President of EPAC/EACN, Director at Special Investigation Service of Lithuania Žydrūnas Bartkus shared his country's experience in the fight against corruption. In the context of obtaining the status of an EU candidate country, the Republic of Moldova now has the mandatory responsibility to clean up the corruption systems. "Corruption is not only the phenomenon of giving and taking bribes, but also a system in which officials can be corrupt. Through the experience of EPAC/EACN, we want to help Moldova create professional and incorruptible public administration", Žydrūnas Bartkus said.
Udrea said that a new strategy for public administration reform is to be finalized and presented for public consultation by late 2022.
The EPAC/EACN conference will be held in late November in Chisinau. Each year, EPAC members organize a professional conference, and since 2008 they have been joined by EACN. Following the organization of the event, working groups will be set up that will be operating the following year.
EPAC (European Partners Against Corruption) includes over 80 anti-corruption authorities and police supervisory bodies from the member countries of the Council of Europe, and EACN (European Anticorruption Network) brings together about 60 anti-corruption authorities from the member states of the European Union, making a significant contribution in the joint efforts taken by the member states to reduce and stop the phenomenon of corruption.
