Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 circulating in Moldova - ANSP says

Chisinau, 20 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The National Agency for Public Health /ANSP/ has announced that it has carried out a new sequencing reaction for the purpose of monitoring the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 strains in Moldova.

According to the ANSP, in the sequencing reaction, to confirm the cases of COVID-19 with variants of SARS-CoV-2 that cause concern, 16 cases determined exclusively by the Omicron variant were found. The samples were selected on 29 August -12 September.

The samples come from different administrative territories, including Chisinau and Balti municipalities, Briceni, Cahul, Căușeni, Cimișlia, Dondușeni, Dubăsari, Comrat, Nisporeni, Orhei districts.

Specialists recommend people to get vaccinated, this being the only safe and effective method to prevent serious cases of illness and death from COVID-19.
